In a dazzling display of elegance, intelligence, and cultural celebration, the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant marked its 35th year with a resounding success. This year the prestigious competition, held on the University of District of Columbia campus in Washington, D.C., witnessed a gathering of accomplished young black women from diverse backgrounds, all vying for the coveted title.
Founder Karen Arrington expressed her pride in the pageant’s continued success, saying, “Miss Black USA is not just a pageant; it is a movement for excellence. We are dedicated to empowering young women to embrace their heritage, intellect, and leadership capacity. Our contestants exemplify the qualities that inspire positive change in the world.”
The pageant featured diverse, intelligent, talented, and beautiful women across the United States. They all had unique stories and backgrounds, but they shared a common goal: to inspire and empower young women of color nationwide.
Miss Black USA 3rd runner-up winner Miss Black Illinois Ebony Graves expressed what this pageant means for young women of color. “This pageant means that I’m able to stand as a representation for young women who want to be in pageants or do not know that they are beautiful. I’m grateful for this opportunity to represent my state and showcase my grace employs that we have in our nation.”
The contestants went through several rounds of competition, including Fitness wear, talent, and evening gown. They all gave their best performances and showcased their skills and personalities. It was clear that each and every one of them was determined to make a difference in the world.
Amidst the dazzling evening gowns and captivating talents displayed, the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant strongly emphasized education. The scholarship component, a key event highlight, provides the winner with a generous financial award; a full scholarship to the University of DC, helping them pursue or continue their educational dreams. The judges had a tough decision, but ultimately, the honor of being crowned Miss Black USA 2023 went to the stunning and poised Ariel Thompson, Miss Black Kentucky. Her name was announced amidst a roar of cheers and applause from the crowd, and she gracefully made her way across the stage to accept her crown and sash. The winner’s journey embodies strength, resilience, and aspiration. Beyond the glittering tiara and sash, the title advocates for critical social issues like education, health, and equality.
